Roots; Its possible to extend above ground level.

Type of decay

Dry and hard at first, the decay eventually turns into a usually moist white rot that frequently has black zone lines visible.

Fruit body and other fungal structures

With the exception of midwinter, toadstools form all year long and continue to exist after death.

Impact / Effect / Significance

Although there is no proof that the decay can result in tree failure, it does somewhat impair the vitality of the roots, causing crown symptoms to become apparent.
