The fleshy, annual toadstools are yellowish when young and turn dark brown as they age. They are typically found in groups with rounder caps. dark brown, recurved scales. Just below the cap, Stalk has a ragged ring. Gills are pale yellow and get darker with age.

Seasonality and perseverance July through December; brief and transient.

Significance / Effect / Impact

In high-use areas, the stem base and major roots should be carefully examined since the decay may grow severe enough to result in failure. However, loss of stiffness and hollowing is frequently enough compensated for by adaptive development.
